For example the authors write: "The objectives in the management of a patient with a problem that may be related to the nervous system are 1 to determine that the problem is caused by a lesion in the nervous system, 2 to localize the lesion in the nervous system, 3 to estimate the extent of the lesion in the nervous system, 4 to determine the cause or the pathologic process, or both, and 5 to estimate the prognosis with no treatment or with various alternative methods of treatment.

There is an after hours requirement of, on average, a 1 in 2 roster, combining surgical assistant and anaesthesia roles. Surgical Assistant Day This rotation will involve the day to day management of the surgical hospitalised cases.

You will attend our ICU in the morning, assess the progress of the case overnight to be ready to present to the surgeons at rounds at approximately 8am. After rounds to the surgeons, routine treatments including, bandage changes, joint injections and regional perfusions are performed initially, under supervision but as your skills improve, unassisted.

You will then move to the surgical department where you will assist with diagnostics and scrub in to procedures. For advanced procedures you will assist one of the senior surgeons, but as your experience and skill level improve then you will perform basic procedures initially under supervision and then unassisted. At the end of the day you will return to the hospital ICU and evaluate the progress of the hospitalised cases Surgical Assistant After Hours You will be on call to assist senior surgeons both with diagnostics and procedures as needed.
